The country's capital is Ulan Bator. It has a wide spectrum of recreational opportunities: from restaurants, museums and monuments to the options for good shopping. The center of the city is Sukhbaatar Square, named in honor of Damdin Sukhbaatar – the “hero of the revolution”, who declared Mongolia's final independence from the Chinese.
A nice place to walk around is Nairamdal Park. There is a lake, located in the southern part of the park, which offers boat rides in summer and ice-skating in winter. If you see the tall thin landmark on top of the hill south of the city, you should know that it is the Zaisan Memorial, commemorating unknown soldiers and heroes from various wars. Central Mongolia suggests the visitors such impressive sights, as Waterfall Ulaan Tsutgalan, which is a great spot for bird watching and fishing, Karakorum, the ancient capital of the country with the Erdenezuu monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, Tuvkhun Monastery, registered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. A picturesque area with mountains, forests, steppes, Gobi-type desert and mineral water sources can be found in Khugnu Khan Mountain National Park. If you want to experience the adventure full of adrenaline, then head for the Khangai Mountains, as there are a dozen or so extinct volcanoes. In their craters you can find very tiny crystal-clears lakes.
